$25 certificates for $2!! No kidding!

October 27, 2008 · Posted in News Worthy · Comments Off

I would never forgive myself if I didn’t take 2 minutes to tell you about this.

Restaurant.com is a site that allows you to purchase restaurant gift certificates at crazy discounts. For example, you can generally purchase a $25 gift certificate for $10 so under normal circumstances, this is a good deal in itself.

Today, I was surfing around and hit a CNET article written by Rick Broida. Rick caught wind of a promotion that allows you to buy a $25 gift certificate for $2. It sounds nuts but I just did it and it worked like a charm. I paid $20 and ended up with $250 worth of gift certificates. Not too bad, especially with the holidays coming up.

When you get to their site, simply search for restaurants in your area and add them to your shopping cart. Once your done, enter TREATS in the promo code box contained in your shopping cart. After I paid, I was able to print these certificates from my PC within minutes so I can actually use one for lunch today.

Please note that this deal expires on October 31st, 2008 and you have one year to use the certificates you purchase. It’s also worth noting that most of these offers have minimum purchase amounts so be sure to check that out.

Some great spots on the Internet

Some of these are ones I have pointed out before and some new ones. Check them out:

www.abebooks.com  is a great site for buying books. Used and new and they are great deals.

www.jingproject.com is a great tool for clipping screens and sharing info with others.

www.stubhub.com is a source for tickets to your favorite team events or shows.

My current listings are here so please come and see if you know someone that would love a house from this list. WE ARE HAVING A SALE ON REAL ESTATE AND RATES ARE STILL LOW!! The news is not telling you the whole truth. We can still close deals so if you or someone you know are interested, this is the best time we have seen in 20 years to buy. We are having a sale!

What a great message for us when we think things are not going the way we want them to.

Spreading the wealth around!!

October 26, 2008 · Posted in News Worthy · Comments Off

In a local restaurant my server had on a ‘Obama 08′ tie. I was pleased, as he had given away his political preference–just imagine the coincidence to come.  When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama ‘redistribution of wealth’ concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need–the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.  I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I had decided he could use the money more.

The homeless guy was grateful.  At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient needed the money more.  I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.

Help save a big company!!

Just a little something to think about.

Indulge me a bit

October 15, 2008 · Posted in News Worthy · Comments Off

Hey,

I don’t want this place to become a place to gripe or complain and certainly not a place for politics as usual. I do think there is lots of blame to go around and frankly I can not bring my self to vote for McCain or Obama in this election. I am voting for Bob Barr and anyone else running on the Libertarian Party ticket. We have a mess and continuing to do what we have always done will not fix it. I have added a video I just saw and I know that what I see in it is accurate. This is not doctored up or a lie in any way that I am aware of. Watch it. Look up the info for yourself and let me know if you think any of the info presented here is wrong and I’ll examine it again.

I think we need to REMOVE (fire, send home, etc) ALL of the current Congressmen and Senators. They seem to think they are there to GOVERN us instead of REPRESENT us. Show them they are wrong. Everyone I talk to is mad. I hope they are mad enough to do something about it. SEND THEM ALL HOME. Now check out the video.

13 October 2008 – Technology Update

I hope the Fall weather is sitting well with you. This is my favorite time of year and so far this is a great time. We have had some rain so hopefully the fall flowers and other foliage will give us one last burst of color before Winter sets in. We have been busy with lots of things and this week is no exception. Of course one of those things is the tech update. Here are a few things to check out and see if you find them helpful in your work or play.

Jing – The concept of Jing is the always-ready program that instantly captures and shares images and video…from your computer to anywhere.  Try it, you’ll like it. It’s free. Go to www.jingproject.com to download your copy.

Most Of Us Use Multiple Computers: Work, home, and on the run. You need to worry about your data. How will you access it from all of these machines? Many carry a thumb drive or a CD or even tote a portable hard drive. Jooce is a new way to access your data on the go. Once you sign up, you get your very own virtual desktop. You can upload your documents and music files. You can also set up instant messaging accounts. Then, sign in from any computer to access your data. Jooce makes it easy to share your data with others. http://jooce.com/#

Capturing thoughts on the road – I told you about Jott a while back and it is still out there as a way to capture voice and convert to to text but it is no longer free. A new program out there is Reqall. It works in a similar way to Jott but it is still free. Check it out at www.ReQall.com and see if you like how it works. I use it just about every day.

Laptop Screen Too Dark When Running On Batteries: There is a solution.  Somewhere on your keyboard, you’ll find a key marked “fn.” You also have a key with a small screen drawn on it. It will have an arrow pointing up. Depress the fn key. While it’s depressed, tap the other key. Keep tapping until you’re satisfied. Caution, the bright display consumes more battery power.

Have a great week and call me if you know someone looking for real estate. This is a great time to buy. If you want to hear the facts on the market locally call me about that too. The news is not telling you the whole truth. We are having a good year in Atlanta in real estate but it is very different than it was in the past. Just let me know if I can do anything to help you. Business or othewise, just let me know.

Scam Alert!!!

October 3, 2008 · Posted in News Worthy, Technology Update · Comments Off

With all the talk of loan modification and refinancing and bailouts, I want to give you a warning. I just received an email offering to help me modify my loan with my lender. Close examination shows this to be a scam. The link they give you to click on sends you to some non-disclosed server and I am sure they will want your personal info or perhaps a ‘fee’ to help you. Either way, you lose!!!

If you need a good lender to help you do something like refinance or you need to ask questions about loan modification please call me and I’ll do all I can to help. You can go to my Referral Directory and find a great set of folks for almost anything you need.

Be careful and call me if you need me.

Ok, I'm a skeptic

October 3, 2008 · Posted in News Worthy · Comments Off

Alright, I looked at the vote and I have to say I was wrong. There were only 10 Senators that voted against this bail out that are up for re-election this year.  I will post a chart on how they voted and you can decide if  you want to get them out. Saxby Chambliss is one of our Senators in GA and he voted for this this thing so my goal is to see him defeated. I have become so convinced that there is almost no difference between a Democrat or a Republican at this point it really won’t matter who is in and who is out. These guys are never going to stop spending if we don’t stop them.

I would welcome a discussion on this so leave a comment if you like.

Well, they did it.

October 2, 2008 · Posted in News Worthy · Comments Off

74 – 25. They passed this bail out bill and are trying to feed us a line that it is not a bail out. I attended a meeting today and we talked about how our markets are driven by greed and fear. Well, we are in the fear side of the market right now and the Senate just responded to that.

Here is an alternative if you want to go see. Check out Dave Ramsey and his common sense plan for another way that the market could take control of itself and it would not cost us a dime.

I will put more up here later but one thing I will point out before closing for the night. The Senate has a 6 year term and I suspect that those that voted no on this bill are the ones that are up for re-election this year. I will take a look at this but I guess I am just a skeptic. I hope we have a lonnggggg memory and will hold these guys accountable.

Thanks for listening.
