Can I speak to the lady of the house??
Telemarketing. I hate it. We have all hated it to the point of passing a ‘do not call list’ law but I still get calls because the politicians are exempt and calls to a business are exempt. I run a business on my cell phone and that means I am fair game.
I got a call the other day from a telemarketer wanting to put me ‘at the top of Google’. That exchange with the telemarketer got me to thinking (after I got him to shut up long enough to politely discontinue the conversation).
He was using a script and it was designed to keep me on the phone and to ‘handle’ any objections I had. He had a goal of selling me something instead of trying to find out if he could actually help me. He did not know me. He did not try to get to know me. He did not try to really ask me any questions that were meaningful to me. He just started in with his ‘shtick’ hoping I was desperate enough to spend some money looking for the secret to getting rich quick.
I’m not. 🙂
My goal in business is to work with and help the people I know. I have been working by referral since I started and it is the best way I can see to be in business. I was looking at my numbers the other day and see that I have been about 95% referral since I started working in real estate. I do my best to stay in touch, provide something of value and my clients, friends and family refer me to their friends and family. It is a wonderful thing but I had a thought.
Am I guilty of not asking enough questions? Am I guilty of trying to sell something instead of finding out what my clients really need and want? I hope not!
