Fight Resistance and win

How do you get to be better? How do you make progress?

The answer lies inside you. The enemy is resistance. The cure is your next action.

I have been a student of motivation, resistance and action for a long time. I just celebrated the 40th anniversary of my 21st birthday. That’s 61 total years.

My move into real estate was in 2003. It was an action I took so I could get off ‘the road’. I was out of town more than I was home. Some months I was home 4 days. Only 4 days. Fear held me back and I finally had enough. I had been motivated by an experience that occurred on a weekend in March and by July I had my real estate license. Within the next year, I allowed my old business to die and to start working full time in real estate.

How about you? What is it that  you want to do? What do you need to do that you have been talking yourself out of? What is the next step you need to take to get where you want to go? What book can you read that will help?

I have a suggestion.

The War of Art by Steven Pressfield is the best book I have ever read on Resistance. Steven gives us the insight to battle this force that wells up within. She raises her hand and says stop anytime we try to do something to improve ourselves. You need to read this one to be prepared for the battle that will surely come.

Second, I want to share a person with you. Les Brown was the first motivational speaker I was blessed to hear when I got into real estate. One of my first contacts was a lender with Southeast Mortgage and she offered me a free ticket to see Les at the Gwinnett Civic Center. I didn’t have anything else to do so I went.

This year I have been blessed to hear Les twice and while it wasn’t free for me to go and I certainly had other things to do, I made time to go. Once to Richmond and once to San Diego.

He is one of the most dynamic speakers I have heard. He can get you to think and then act. Please spend a few minutes with this video. Gather friends around and listen together. it will make a difference.

We are starting something new here. This is the first of many I expect to share. Since we know motivation doesn’t last we need to do it regularly. Zig Ziglar says it’s like a bath. We need to do it often. I will be posting something weekly and sharing with everyone I know.

Take what you like and leave the rest. It is not going to ring the bell of everyone but it will resonate with a few and that is the point. Over time I hope to find something for everyone that helps them get from where they are to where they want to be.

Stay tuned…

Thanks for listening,
