George Miller

My day yesterday was a tough one. I attended a memorial for one of my heros.

George is someone I met in my business. His daughter Lori introduced us a few years ago and I liked him the moment I met him. His number one goal was to take care of his daughter and grandson, Tyler. George was always smiling and had a kind word but there was more. He was a father, husband, grandfather, friend and biker. I am sure he was more than those things but that is how I knew him. He died last Sunday at the age of 82.

Did you catch that about the biker?

George rode most of his life and when I met him in his late 70’s he did not have a bike. He got a new one just a couple of years ago. 80 years old and riding a bike. Not one of those 3 wheeled things either. A real two wheeled, 600cc bike. I don’t remember what brand it is but I remember the smile on his face when he opened the shed where it is stored and showed it to me. He was beaming!! He loved riding and I believe he did it as much as he could. Bikers are a tough bunch. We’re not like some would call “motorcycle enthusiasts”. There is a difference. Bikers don’t check the weather before they leave. If they have decided to ride these is not much that would stop them.

I did not get to ride with George because I don’t have a bike right now but I’m looking forward to the day that I do. That day is coming. I read a book written by Randy Alcorn called Heaven and it tells about what we know from scripture about Heaven. There will be a New Heaven and a New Earth and if you read the book you’ll understand what Randy has to say about it but I believe we will get to ride together and it won’t matter how long a trip we take cause we’ll have all the time we need. Heaven is not about clouds and harp music. Read the book and see if you don’t get a whole new perspective on Heaven.

George was a man that I believe lived everyday until he died. Most people don’t do that. They are already dead but they are still walking around.  He loved his family and friends and was not afraid too show it. Much more than some athlete or actor, this man was a hero to me and I wanted to share him with you. He gave me hope that I can live a long life and share it with friends and family and maybe even buy a new bike when I am 80. God bless him and his family. I will miss him.

Thanks for listening,
Jerry Robertson
