I’m a recovering engineer
I am a recovering engineer. I used to write database programs, human interface tools, and industrial automation applications. To me, it looks like most real estate technology is re-purposed tools and info, kludged together and offers about the same thing, regardless of where it comes from.
Some of the tools offer estimates of house value that have limited information and don’t usually reflect the actual value of a property. One site quoted they have an 80% chance of being within 20% of the correct value. I could do better with a dartboard.
Having said all that, I have something new to share.
Keller Williams has created 2 consumer tools from the ground up that offer some great features.
First is a national search website. Most of the other company websites are limited to the local MLS they are in. The KW site uses that data too but it works all over the US and Canada. There are some other national sites that do that but KW offers something no one else does.
You can search by neighborhood name or school zone.
We all have favorite neighborhoods or a school system we want to look in. This website will make it easy to find what’s happening locally and nationally by neighborhood.
It’s all map based and runs quickly on any platform. It also works by city and zip code. It will show you active properties, ones under contract, short sales and foreclosures. You can find new construction, and even ‘coming soon’ properties. You can use this to find vacation homes, consider the cost of homes in a new area or just looking for fun.
Think of it like going to an open house in your jammies.
I’m currently adding vendors and contractors to my list as well. There is a page on the site that includes folks I recommend and trust to do a good job for you. It’s hard to get on my list but frankly, it’s easy to get removed. I’d be happy to add folks you’ve worked with and would recommend to others so introduce us and we’ll talk to them.
Another feature we’re working on is area highlights. Restaurants, parks, stores we shop and really anything of interest is being added to the site. Soon you’ll be able to see what local real estate agents find of interest. Kinda like Yelp but more personal and without all the drama. That’s not quite ready yet but it’s coming. I’ve added some places like the Revival Hall Tap Room in Jefferson, GA and Rico’s World Kitchen in Buford, GA. Two of my favorite places.
Second is a new consumer app for your smartphone. This does the same things like the website, shares data with the desktop site (if you’ve created a profile) and makes it easy to let me know what you like and want to see. You can add someone in so they can see what you like too. It can be a co-buyer, spouse or any other person you want to share with.
As that recovering engineer, I’m really pleased with what I see. It’s not like anything else on the internet right now. No one is doing stuff like this yet.
You can download the app by clicking here and come to the website by going here.
I’d love your feedback after you get a chance to check this stuff out. I’m biased, I’ll admit but I think its cool KW has created this stuff with you in mind.
Thanks for listening,
Jerry Robertson
