It won’t start

It won’t start…

Heading to Phoenix, AZ today for Keller Williams Family Reunion. We have had a few days of rough weather in Atlanta. School was out most of the week and we were snowed in for a couple of days. In Atlanta that means we got a couple of inches of snow 🙂

Since I don’t own a snow shovel anymore I just had to wait for it to thaw. That thaw happened yesterday. I should have checked the El Camino then.

Today I am traveling to Phoenix. Got up and went to work out first with Celeste. That went pretty well. Decent work out and a little bit of cardio. Headed back home.

Packed and loaded the bags into the El Camino but had time to take Susan to lunch before I had to leave. So far, so good. I should have tried to start the Elky then but I didn’t.

Got back from lunch and finished packing up the hardware to take. Phone, Chromebook, chargers, etc. Loaded that all in the car and thought ‘hey, that’s not too bad. I’ve got a couple of hours to spare.’ NOT!!

I fortunately remembered my tickets to the event were in my inbox at the office. I’m ok, I think cause I still have time. I finally got in the El Camino and turned the key. Nothing. Well, almost nothing. I get the blower from the heater but nothing else. Open the hood and check the battery wires but they are fine. Headlights come on but are really dim. I’m thinking the battery is just dead from the cold and sitting but jumping it ought to work. NOT!!

Jumper cables from the Sebring to the El Camino and a few minutes to let it charge. I’m running out of time. Try the key. Still nothing. Turn off the blasted blower but that didn’t help either. Now I’m starting to freak.

I used to fly every week. I was used to the feeling of a time constraint that I had to keep (planes don’t wait for me) and I was used to keeping a checklist in my head for all the stuff I needed to take. But that was years ago. Now I use a real checklist and get anxious if something doesn’t go right and right now, it’s not going right.

Susan to the rescue. She got in the car and said ‘drive’. She agreed to take me to the office, run by the post office (had some mail that needed to get out) and then to the airport. That was about an hour to get all that done. She dropped me at the check in counter and headed back home. I know it took her over an hour to get back too. God bless that woman. I married up for sure. Happy Valentines Day!!!

I checked my bag at the curb, got my boarding pass and headed for security. Correction, law enforcement. They are not the same thing. That is a story for another day. Anyway, got through security and headed to the gate. C14 on the monitor.

One the way I helped a young lady find her way through the maze of the train to the plane (why aren’t those two words spelled the same?) and concourse info, got a cup of coffee and sat down at the gate just as they called our flight. Dang it, I really wanted to drink that coffee! As it turned out I had time to finish the cup almost but I did end up tossing the last bit as I walked down the ramp.

We boarded and I got a window seat.  Not one that reclines but it’s a window seat and I will be landing in Phoenix in a couple more hours as I write this. I did get to see perhaps one of the longest sunsets ever.  As we fly west we are chasing the sun at about 480 mph and the earth spins about 1000 mph so the sunset lasted about two hours instead of just one. Check out the picture. Pretty nice.

I do have internet access on the flight and have been working for most of the time. I am not sure if that is a good thing. I did get to talk to Tim, an agent from Ohio coming down to attend his first Family Reunion. New agent doing the right thing. Getting plugged in right away. Wish I had done that 🙂

Anyway, I’m finishing this up at the house I’m staying at. I rented a room through Airbnb.com and got a pretty good deal. $56 a night all in and it’s a mile from my meeting site. It will be a nice walk each day. Met the nice young couple where I’ll be staying and took a short walk to the diner around the corner for a burger. Pretty good stuff. I got to try a Woodchuck Amber Cider out of the tap. Hard cider so it has about 5% alcohol in it. That went well with the black beans and rice I had and the black and blue burger. I’m a blessed man.

Time to get some sleep and get ready for a full few days of training, education and encouragement. Love the company I am with. No one else does it like this.

Thanks for listening,
Jerry Robertson
