It’s a choice
I hear that a lot. It’s a choice. You get to choose what you want to do or be. Does that seem like the truth to you? It certainly has the ring of truth if you live and work in the USA. We pride ourselves on that idea and there are many examples that confirm the truth of this statement. I can attest to some of that in my life too.
I decided to lose weight. It took time but over a period of about 18 months I lost 60 pounds.
I made a choice to leave a secure job over 23 years ago. I was about to turn 40 and was 17 years into a company that would offer retirement and a pension some day. I was offered an opportunity to move down south, start a new company and take a chance. I asked God for guidance but He was silent. Nothing. I asked Him to show me what to do but when He was silent I asked Him to stop me if it was a mistake. My driving force was the quiet voice that said ‘but what if I don’t?’ and I did.
14 years ago I decided to make another change. To move into real estate from being an engineer most of my life. Another choice. It was hard. It is hard. I love it and it’s a great career if you want to push yourself. To grow and be something you have not been.
What I have learned recently is it’s not just a choice. That is the second step, to choose. The first is to think. To have a thought to choose. Choices control your life but your thinking controls your choices. You can change how you think.
I’ll get into this more I suspect but it’s the main thought in my mind this morning and I wanted to share it. The video is what I was listening to while I wrote this. Not totally related but valuable in the messages delivered on a Monday morning. We all need a bit of positive thinking to get our mind on the path to where we want to be. It’s different for everyone.
I’d love to hear your thoughts. What choices are you considering? What are you thinking?
Thanks for listening,
Jerry Robertson
