Tuesday Night Tunes
We play this song at 12Stone Church quite a bit. At least lately we do. Last week I listened to it about 6 times from Friday Night of Worship and several services between Saturday and Sunday. Here is a picture of the Friday night service with about 2600 of my closest friends.
I found this song helps me think about the chains I am in and how I can be free of them. Chains of sin, guilt, unforgiveness, isolation, selfishness and all the negative things we as humans tend to focus on. That is not what God intended for us.
He meant us to be free.
Love the message. Breaking the chains that bind us. There is power in the name of Jesus. Check out the song (lyrics are here) and see what you get from it. I have some more thoughts after the break.
As I think about the song I focus on one part right now. “There is an army rising up to break every chain.” We were in chains but I want to tell you that if the church you belong to, the religion you follow or the God you believe in makes you feel like you’re still in chains, you’re probably not doing it right.
We are meant to be free.
There is freedom in Christ and in following Jesus. In John 10:9-11 Jesus said “9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.[a] They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. 11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”
None of that says we won’t have trouble in this life. In fact, Jesus said we will. Further on in John 16:33 he says “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” This is a promise toward the future and the troubles we experience can be used to teach us or prepare us to help others while we are here.
If you feel like you are in chains and want to talk about how to be free, call me. I’ll listen and share what I can.
One more word of encouragement from Paul is Galatians 5:1 “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
One more thing, if you found this on Facebook or Twitter, you are probably missing some of the articles that I publish. Subscribe over to the right and you’ll not miss a thing. I send out update emails on Tuesday so subscribe and stay in the loop.
Thanks for listening,
