Are you at your best?

I was directed to this video a few years ago by my son Mike. At the time I shared it back then and made a comment or two about Prince. He comes out at the end. You need to see it so sit back and watch for a few minutes. It’s a great song.

Prince died on April 21, 2016 and I saw an article about him today that brought all this to mind. My thought went something like “I wonder what Prince would be like if he had ‘stayed’ at his best?” and then it continued to be “What would I be like if I stayed at my best?”.

What gets in the way of us being our best? Drugs, like Prince? Alcohol? Smartphone addiction? You can make a list just like I can. We all feel like we have more potential and fall short but what if we were more intentional about what we do in a day? Just one day. One day at a time? All of those things that distract us are probably not on our calendar.

I practice something that gives us a little grace in our day though because we are human. It’s called “Win the Day”. Decide what it looks like for you to win the day. How many calls so you need to make or notes do you need to write or what reports do you need to create to win the day?

If you do that 4 out of 7 days you have won the week and 3 out of 4 weeks and you’re winning the month. You get the idea. It’s not perfection we seek. It’s progress and focus.

We lost a great musician in Prince when he died. This video is testament to that. What are we in danger of losing because we are not at our best? What can you do today to be at your best? I’d love to hear what your thoughts are below in the comments or connect on Facebook.

Have a great week!!

Thanks for listening,
