Acceptable discomfort
Are you OK with discomfort? My guess is you answered ‘no’ but that is not the truth. We all arrive at a place where the pain to change is greater than the discomfort we feel every day.
I thought of this as I read about a new mobile browser for my phone. It was expounding on the benefits and new features but as I read it became obvious I would have to change the way I use my phone to find things on the Internet. In my mind I said ‘nah’ and moved on to the next article but the next thought was about change.
Maybe I am passing up on a good thing.
Progress feels like that sometimes. Last November I hired an assistant. My business was good but I wanted to do more and it was obvious I was at my maximum capacity. I was stuck. Hiring Amanda is the best thing I could have done and we are getting to the point now where her help is making a difference. A big difference. I have more time to do the things that lead to more business and she handles a lot of things I used to do. Yesterday I turned over my business email and she handles what she can and alerts me if there are things that need my immediate attention. Otherwise it waits until the afternoon when I get to the dreaded ‘inbox’.
I am actually getting to write this and have been working on some new ideas with the time I gained but it was uncomfortable at first to do this. I am still struggling with not checking my email because of the ‘fear of missing out’ (FOMO is a real thing) but I am determined to overcome the discomfort and ultimately will benefit from it.
Are you working in a job you hate or feel like you need to change? Are you working for a company that is not helping you grow your business? One thing I hear from agents coming to Keller Williams is ‘I can’t believe it took me this long to get here!’. They tell about the feeling when they discover what Keller Williams offers in culture (how we agree to treat each other) and training to grow your business (new agents and experienced alike). They put off the change because of the hassle and fear of the unknown but celebrate once they get it done.
Do you have an employee that you think you should fire but are afraid of the work that won’t get done (by the way, I learned if you have an employee you think you should fire and don’t, you are embezzling from your own company – just sayin’).
So what do you need to change? Where do you need to face the discomfort of doing something different?
If you always do what you’re always done, you’ll always get what you already have.
Call me if I can help, with business or beyond. I’ll do all I can to help.
Thanks for listening,
