Tuesday Night Tunes – Stevie Ray Vaughn – Little Wing Fender Promo

I did not expect to see this version when I started digging!! This is Stevie Ray Vaughn playing on a promo for Fender. Press play and keep reading. You may want to watch it first and then hit repeat. It’s a cool video with lots of great guitar players in it as well as some great music.

I was listening to 97.1 The River over the weekend and this song came on. I have to say I get tired of the playlist on The River after a while but sometime on the weekend they start playing some interesting things and this was one of them. Soundhound gave me the details (great app for your phone) and then YouTube gave me the video but there is a bit of the story that’s personal.

Fender Rogers and Rhodes used to be a client of mine. About 1982 in Fullerton, CA they had a paint line for the Lead Series Guitar and I used to help them keep the equipment running right and getting the finish on those beautiful guitars. I think it was certainly for the lower grade product (mass produced) but it was awesome to see row after row of guitar bodies lined up ready to get clear coated. I had forgotten about that until I saw this video. Mixed in with the clips and underscored by the music are scenes from the factory and it just made me smile.

I have to say that the song Little Wing was Jimmy Hendrix creation and that means there is no one that can match the skill to play it the way Jimmy did but SRV does a different version if you will, giving it more of a blues feel. Loved it. I think if we get to see Stevie Ray in Heaven it will be on the big stage playing this one.
