Memorial Day

As I reflect on Memorial Day I am taken back to a time when I was 17. 1973. My selective service number was 9. I was trying to decide what part of the military to serve in because I figured with a number that low I was going.

As it turned out I didn’t have to because the draft was discontinued. My number didn’t count anymore. As the next year passed my number became 9+365. I didn’t sign up but instead went to school, got married, had kids and lived a life that I am thankful for.

I’ve had the experience of attending Rolling Thunder with friends and it humbles me to see the memorials of all those who have given their lives for me. For you. To see all the names on The Wall or to walk in Arlington National Cemetery. I have no words when I’m there.

I could keep writing but I found something I wanted to share. The Gary Sinise Foundation posted a blog today introducing you to 3 real American Heros.  Spend some time reading about them and reflect on our privileges for being a part of this country and consider what you can do to support our military, their families and our country. We are blessed beyond measure.

Thanks for listening,
