Tuesday Night Tunes – We’re back

Susan and I have a problem. I don’t like Christian music. At least not what I hear on the radio most of the time. It goes a bit further than that for me. I can drive for hours with nothing coming out of the radio. No music, no audio books, no nothing. Just me and the voices in my head :). I have learned that is common for introverts, especially in the beginning of the day or for me, on road trips that cover several hours. I want silence until I feel like I can handle more input. If you have ever turned down the radio so you can see the road signs better when you’re lost, welcome to my world.

The book Quiet by Susan Cain gave me a much better understanding of this in my life. Many think introvert and connect that to ‘shy’. When I say introvert I simply mean I recharge in silence. It takes a bit of time in quiet for me to open up and be able to interact, converse and share thoughts. It’s easier with people I know and trust but after I adjust I can and will talk to anyone.

When Susan and I get in the car it can be challenging to say the least. She likes the Christian music on the radio stations and I don’t. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a follower of Christ but a lot of what I hear on the radio is best heard in a large space with lots of other believers singing praises. I like that but not in the car with the same phrase said over and over with limited musicality. I want something interesting to listen to. Good lyrics, deep thoughts, great sound but not your typical stuff.

I found something on our last road trip that I loved. The group is David Crowder Band or simply Crowder for his later work. Love the music, the songs and even the lyrics. Then as I was doing some looking I find Run Devil Run and it features an El Camino. Gotta love that 🙂

Check it out

So after I hear this song I did a little more digging and found out it’s from a new album being released in September. Here is a video of Crowder talking about the song and the new record.

And finally the song I heard from Susan’s playlist. We created a playlist we can both get on board with. It’s a mix of lots of things and this one snuck in there somehow. I have to say, I even get into the rap in the middle. Go figure.

Lyrics for Lift your Head Weary Sinner are here if you want to see them.

So Tuesday night tunes was gone for a while but it’s time to bring it back. I missed the chance to dig up new music and share it. Even tonight, I would never have found “Run Devil Run” without sitting down tonight to do this and seeing that El Camino just made me grin.

If you have something you like and want to bring it up I would love to hear it. Just email me or text me. You can even leave comments if you like and I should see them eventually.

Thanks for listening,
