Video Sharing Tips

More gadgets are able to film HD video. Newer cameras, tablets and even smartphones make it easier to shoot gorgeous home videos that anyone would want to share. Fortunately, the Internet makes it simple to share video. Just upload to a video-sharing site or social media and you’re done. Or are you? Most video-sharing sites are public or share your video with everyone you know. If you want only a few people watching your videos, you need a private video sharing service.

YouTube
This service hopefully needs no introduction. Any video you upload to YouTube is public by default, but there are ways to make videos you share on YouTube private. While uploading your video, find the Broadcasting and Sharing Options menu. There are three settings – Public, Unlisted and Private. Public allows anyone to search for and view your video. Unlisted keeps your video off of searches, but people can still see it if they have the link. Choose the Private option. This allows you to create a list of approved users that can view the video. YouTube sends an email to everyone on your list with the link. Private videos are limited to 50 other users.

VideoSprout
If you want to avoid setting permissions on each of your videos, you can sign up for an account with Videosprout. Its servers aren’t publicly searchable, so each video you upload can be seen only by the people you allow. To allow someone to view your video, just send them a link. Although you can share your video with as many viewers as you like, there are limits. Your videos can be viewed only 500 times a month, and you have only 100 megabytes of storage space. That’s only a few minutes of high-definition video, so this service is better for standard-definition video.

GivIt
Givit is another private sharing site like Videosprout, but it gives you 2 gigabytes of storage so you can upload larger videos. If you need more than 2GB of space, increased storage plans start at $30 a year for 10 GB. Givit doesn’t limit your monthly views, so the people you share your video with can watch as many times as they like. However, your friends and family will have to sign up for a free Givit account in order to watch the videos.

Hope that helps.
