I am talking about the android phones that I have found. I personally use a Sprint EVO by HTC and my wife and son are using the LG Opitmus S and we love them. The only thing I have to say negative about them is the battery life but I am here to give you a possible solution.
There is a lot of talk on the net about task killers and the like but I am finding they don’t really help and the explanation as to why made sense to me. Android loads programs into memory but won’t run them unless you are using them. If you kill them the operating system sees the free memory and reloads them and that uses battery for no real reason.
Two programs I found in the Market are Juice Defender and Watchdog. They are both free and really seem to help.
Juice Defender kills the 3G radio hardware when the screen is off. If your phone spends a lot of time in your pocket then this might make a big difference for you. I am a pretty heavy user of the phone and it still seems to have nearly doubled my battery life.
Watchdog keeps on eye on applications and if they start using lots of CPU time it sets off an alarm. This allows you to check on the apps and see if they are working correctly or need to be ‘killed’. Watchdog will let you kill them if you need to so it acts a little like a task killer too but in a more conservative manner.
That is my experience so far with the new phones and I hope it helps you in your selection. BTW, I have been on Sprint for about 3 years now and love the quality of the connection, hardware and service in the stores. If you believe it is time for a change I would recommend them to you.
